APPAREL

I’ve been creating apparel designs for eight years now. My favorite part of the process is incorporating details from the event or organization being represented and selecting color palettes that fit the tone exactly.

Texas Drill Team Trip

I created this design for my drill team’s performance at Fiesta in San Antonio in 2019. Texas has deep historical ties to Mexico and that cultural influence is clear to see in San Antonio. I wanted to honor that influence in the calavera on the back of the shirt and used pink, which represents hope, purity, and celebration in Mexican culture. On the front, I chose an outline of the Alamo to celebrate our Texan history.

Camp Mystic for Girls in Hunt, TX

This design was based on the respective themes for the two oldest groups of campers: the high school senior “Getawaides” and the “Coral Reef Rough House” juniors. It’s a tradition that each summer term, the oldest campers get a “day off” and get to leave camp and have counselor privileges for a day. When the aides are gone, the Rough House girls take over their duties and essentially take over camp. I wanted to honor both themes in the design because the two age groups are so close. I also wanted it to rhyme and have a cheerful color palette without being too distracting.

Lake Highlands Winter Formal

The Winter Formal is a joint event between the spirit organizations at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, TX. As the Social Committee President of the drill team, I organized the formal itself, created the apparel designs, and invitations. I was inspired by the song “City of Stars” from the musical La La Land and wanted the elegant, jazzy theme of the dance to be reflected in the invites and apparel.

Texas Drill Team Practice

These designs were created for the Highlandette drill team’s practice uniforms. In knowing that the design would be on a Comfort Colors tank and paired with black leggings, I wanted the team to be able to choose between a neutral tank or a brighter outfit inspired by a previous dance number.
